Abstract
Venturi meter is a device for measuring velocity of fluids using Bernoulli's principle. Usually, these venturi meters are used in many industries such as the oil industry.
In this research, the author will examine venturi meters with variations in beta ratio (β), namely 0.4, 0.55, and 0.65. This research will be researched and calculated using a formula based on existing theory and from the results of this research, the flow velocity in the venturi meter is obtained. This research will examine venturi meters with a discharge of 12.5 litres/min, 15 litres/min, and 17.5 litres/min. Then it will be assisted by piezometers that has been installed at certain points to calculate the Pressure Drop. Therefore, the calculation results are used to produce the Flow Coefficient (α) and flow velocity at the Venturi meter outlet.
Flow Coefficient (α) is a comparison between actual discharge and theoretical discharge without considering energy loss or efficiency. Actual discharge is the discharge that comes in because losses in the venturi meter are considered non-existent and the flow velocity is considered constant. Meanwhile, theoretical discharge is discharge measured by calculating the pressure that decreases from point 1 (inlet) to point 2 (throat). Flow velocity is measured using a Pitot tube.
